The tennis side of the clubhouse is very active as well. I spent several summers as a kid participating in their tennis summer camp and really enjoyed the experience. Fun fact: the only other “Bud Davis” I have ever met is a tennis instructor at Nellie Gail and has been there for many years! The club hosts numerous USTA tennis tournaments throughout the year, has weekly clinics for adults and kids, and offers several tennis teams for adults of all levels.
The Nellie Gail community is very active with scheduling events throughout the year. There’s a holiday decorating contest and winter wonderland event during the Christmas season. In the spring, they have a big Easter egg hunt. In the summer, they host three different camps for kids and have a summer concert series in the park. Nellie Gail also recently hosted a home security fair to educate the neighborhood on ways to increase the security of their home.
I asked my friends, Leslie and Grant, who are raising their two kids in Nellie Gail, what it is like to live in the neighborhood. They said, “For being in the middle of Orange County, Nellie Gail is very secluded, quiet, with lots of parks and trails. It is a great neighborhood and we have great relationships with our neighbors.” Grant is an avid trail runner and uses the 25 miles of trails in Nellie Gail to prepare for marathons and triathlons. One day, I joined him on what he called “a fun, but moderately challenging” run in the neighborhood’s trails. It was an arduous four mile run up and down numerous steep hills, which he called “little bumps.” It took me several days to recover, meanwhile, he ran the same route for three days in a row. During the run we both noted the beauty of the trails that weave throughout the community.
Nellie Gail is in a great location in south county and is close to everything a city offers. It is located just off the 73 Toll Road and is a close drive to the 5 Freeway for easy commutes. Crown Valley Parkway is just down the road and takes less than 15 minutes to get to the beach. There is also a Costco nearby and the Mission Viejo and Kaleidoscope malls are less than 10 minutes away.
